When Wisdom Was Born – Ganesh Chaturthi
The annual Ganesh Chaturthi festival, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, has arrived. We've put together a feature on how India celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi in honour of this significant occasion. As diverse as the people who worship him, this revered divinity. His appeal is broad and multifaceted, appealing to various regions of the nation in various ways. Even the story of his birth is rich with tales, which is curiously fitting for a deity like Ganesha who is loyal to his followers and smart as an elephant.
The four separate rites of Ganesh Chaturthi are Pranapratishhtha, Shhodashopachara, Uttarpuja, and Ganpati Visarjan.
The Ganesha idol is made in Pranaprathishtha. The idol is subsequently placed in a pandal or a devotee's home. People who worship an idol pray, put on musical performances, and sing devotional songs to it. There are 16 different forms of prayers offered during Shhodashopachara, including floral arrangements and sweets.
The third stage, known as Uttarpuja, happens just before immersion. The deity is removed from its residence or pandal and dressed for immersion in water.
The idol is submerged in the sea during the last ritual called Visarjan. One of India's great epics, the Mahabharat, is claimed to have been written by Ganesha when Sage Vyasa told him the story. When he was finished.
Ganesh Chaturthi is one such celebration that is enthusiastically observed in India and all across the world. Indians who live in the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, and Australia set up puja pandals and give prayers and sweets to the devotees. American Ganesha festival is the name given to it in North America, while having distinct names in other countries. Given that the Tamil-speaking Hindu community is centred there, it is known as Vinayaka Chaturthi in Malaysia and Singapore.
